Dry Needling Therapy

Introduction

What is Dry Needling

Dry Needling Therapy is also known as Trigger Point Dry Needling or Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling. It is a process in which thin needles are inserted into the trigger points or tight muscles of the body. It is usually done to treat myofascial pain (Myo means Muscle and Fascia means Tissue that connects muscles). The main purpose is to improve Tissue Healing and Restore Muscle Function. Muscles in our Body sometimes develop knotted areas called Trigger points which are quite sensitive and can be painful when touched. A physiotherapist pushes thin solid needles through the skin into trigger points. These Needles are used to stimulate the tissue and not to inject the medication. The patient may experience different sensations, muscle soreness, aching, a muscle twitch, etc.

How does Dry Needling work

Dry needling is an efficient method to relieve pain in specific places of the body because it targets trigger points. If there is any shoulder or neck discomfort, the Physiotherapist places needles into trigger sites that have been detected. The needles release tension, inflammation, toxins, and pressure in the muscles that produce pain. The end outcome will be increased range of motion and rapid pain alleviation.

Better Range of Motion

The Advantage Of Dry Needling is that it reduces tension and pressure in trigger points. For an athlete continuously moving, having fluid mobility and a complete range of motion is critical for performance. For Example: A baseball player needs to have a complete range of motion in the shoulder which is important for good throwing. Throwing a baseball continuously puts a lot of strain on your shoulder. Therefore it's critical to relax your muscles and eliminate tension. Dry needling helps improve the general movement post an injury.

Improves Recovery

The most difficult and time-consuming aspect of any injury is the recuperation period. Yes, certain injuries demand longer recovery times than others, but we're all eager to get back to full vigor. Patients have reported faster pain alleviation, better Pain Management and a greater range of motion after using dry needling. This is one of the most significant advantages of dry needling therapy since it accelerates the healing process compared to other treatment alternatives.

Dry needling has been shown to aid in the following conditions:

Backache/tension in the lower back

Neck ache

Elbow Pain

Headaches or Migraine

Spine Dysfunction

Abnormalities of the joints

Sciatica Nerve Pains

Shoulder Pain
